TasteBuds makes it easier for people to find out where they can get fresh and local food.  Whether you are a farm, restaurant, grocery store, or food artisan, being a part of the guide will help bring business to your establishment.

What is the cost of being a part of the TasteBuds Local Food Guide?
It is free to be listed in TasteBuds. To determine if your establishment is eligible to be in TasteBuds, please refer to the Eligibility Requirements.

What are the benefits of buying local?
Buying local allows you to support your local economy and support the farms in your area.  Additionally, local food travels less to reach consumers, reducing the amount of fossil fuels spent on feeding your family.

What is a CSA?
CSA stands for "community supported agriculture". From late spring to early autumn, members of a CSA pick up a weekly delivery of produce from a local farm either at the farm or a pick-up point around town. 

How can I get involved with a CSA?
To get involved with CSA you will need to contact your farm of choice to determine if they have CSA.  You can review the farms CSA information to determine if it is a good fit for your family.  Consider pick-up times, location and variety of produce, just to name a few!

What constitutes the label "organic"?
Organic produce is grown without the aid of synthetic pesticide and fertilizer products. The USDA regulates all certified organic products. Conventional farms do use synthetic pesticide and fertilizer products, although in many small scale farming operations they are used sparingly.

What is sustainable agriculture?
Sustainable agriculture seeks to lower environmental impact of farming by rotating crops to enrich the soil, utilizing little or no synthetic pesticide and fertilizer products and reducing air pollution created through long distance shipping by working as local as possible.  Sustainable agriculture works to nourish the soil in order to nourish the fruits of the soil.

How can I support sustainable agriculture?
The best way to support sustainable agriculture it to support your local farms and restaurants by buying local. You can also visit the Crabtree Farms site and make a donation to help support the TasteBuds Local Food Guide.

Can I visit the farms listed in the TasteBuds Local Food Guide?
Many of the farms listed are open to the public, but may require for you to call ahead. Check the map & directory for contact information for each farm.

When will I know what produce is in season?
Local produce availability depends on a lot of variables, such as weather. For approximate growing seasons, check out the seasonal growth chart.

What kinds of food products are available locally?
To find food produced by local food artisans, go to the "GUIDE" section of this website and search "Artisan Food".  For a list of produce grown locally check out the seasonal growth chart.
